Blount County Release Meanings
Release is an agency-specific event. When the Blount County Sheriff's Office ends a jail stay, the person may go home on bond, finish a local sentence, enter probation, transfer to another jail, or move into state, federal, or immigration custody. Only some of those outcomes are a community release. The BCSO booking and release record is the best starting document because it connects an admission and exit to the same booking number.
The court record explains the legal event behind many exits. A bond order, dismissal, judgment, sentence, or probation order may show why confinement should end, but it may not show when the jail opened the door. A receiving agency proves a transfer. For that reason, a reliable finding pairs the BCSO exit entry with the court docket, TDOC FOIL, VINELink, BOP, ICE, or direct agency confirmation as the facts require.
- Discharge
- The end of a correctional sentence or supervision term, not merely departure from one building.
- Time served
- A sentence outcome crediting confinement already completed.
- Detainer
- A request or legal hold that can send a person to another agency instead of into the community.
- Expungement
- A court-led process that can remove qualifying public criminal-record information.
Blount County Release Paths
The words on a Blount County release entry determine the next place to check. Bond and recognizance end physical jail custody while the case remains open. Parole and probation allow a person to live outside a facility under set rules. A transfer ends BCSO custody but begins or continues custody elsewhere.
| Release entry | What it means | Best second record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond or surety | County custody ended with court duties still pending | Bond order and next court setting |
| Recognizance or pretrial release | The case continues outside the jail | Court order and listed supervision office |
| Time served or sentence expired | The custodial part was satisfied | Judgment, credit calculation, and any supervision record |
| Probation or parole | The person is outside a facility but remains under supervision | FOIL, TDOC Field Services, Board, or court record |
| Transfer | BCSO custody ended, but confinement continued | Receiving county, TDOC, BOP, ICE, or federal docket |
| Dismissed or acquitted | The court outcome may explain the exit | Final disposition and any later expungement order |
A hospital move or death also removes a person from an active roster without proving a community release. Medical detail may be private, so the Sheriff's Office controls what can be confirmed. The key question is not simply whether a name vanished. It is which agency ended custody and what happened next.
Blount County Release Record Fields
A useful request asks for an existing booking and release sheet or custody-history entry. BCSO should confirm which fields are releasable. The inventory below describes the details worth requesting, not a promise that every field appears in every public record.
| Field | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Name, alias, and birth detail | Identity clues needed to avoid a namesake match |
| Booking number | The link between intake, charges, image, and exit |
| Booking date and time | When BCSO recorded the jail admission |
| Arresting agency and case | The agency and court matter connected to the stay |
| Bond and charge data | The status recorded during the booking, not proof of guilt |
| Release date and time | When BCSO custody ended for that booking |
| Release type or reason | Bond, sentence end, court order, transfer, or another coded event |
| Destination or receiver | The next agency when the exit was a handoff |
Charges at booking are allegations. They do not state the final case outcome. Match the release sheet with the court disposition, and use the next agency's record when the release type is a transfer.
Request Blount County Release Records
Blount County routes Sheriff's Office requests through GovTransfer, while BCSO Records can answer routing questions at 865-273-5003. Ask for a named record, not an opinion about whether someone is free. Give enough detail to isolate the right booking and ask for electronic delivery plus a cost estimate.
- Create a free GovTransfer account and select the Blount County Sheriff's Office as the agency.
- Identify the full name, aliases if known, date of birth when lawfully available, approximate booking dates, and booking or case number.
- Request the booking/release sheet or custody history, including exit date, time, type, and receiving agency if recorded.
- Separate multiple jail stays and state whether an associated booking photograph is also sought.
- Ask for electronic copies and an estimate before charges exceed the amount you set.
The county records instructions show the official Sheriff request route and contact details.
The screen helps route a request, but the custodian still decides what existing record is responsive and what lawful redactions apply.

Sheriff requests: GovTransfer
Under the Tennessee Public Records Act, inspection generally cannot be charged unless another law permits it. Copy and labor charges may apply. If prompt access is impracticable, the custodian must within seven business days produce the record, deny it in writing with the basis, or give a written estimate of the time reasonably needed.
Blount County Release Record Retention
The live roster has no published retention period. That does not set the life of the underlying record. Tennessee's sheriff records retention schedule treats booking, movement, identification, finance, medical, and property records as different series with different time rules. Booking and movement logs have a five-year schedule, while identification material and arrest indexes can last far longer. Medical retention does not create public access.
Public access is also limited by juvenile confidentiality, sealed or expunged material, protected personal facts, medical privacy, and jail-security exemptions. Redaction is a normal records practice. A record kept by an agency is not always a record available in full to every requester.
A row leaving InmateNOW does not mean the official booking and release record was destroyed.
Find Blount County Released Inmates
Start with two identifiers and a clear custody theory. A full name plus a birth detail, booking number, or TOMIS number is much safer than a name alone. Then move through the systems in order, recording the date and time of each check.
- Search BCSO InmateNOW. A current row supports present county listing, while no row proves nothing by itself.
- Read the Blount public court case for a bond order, disposition, judgment, sentence, or later violation.
- If a felony transfer is plausible, search TDOC FOIL by TOMIS number or matched identity.
- Check Tennessee on VINELink for a participating agency event and prospective alerts.
- Use the BOP Inmate Locator, ICE detainee locator, or the federal docket when federal or immigration custody is possible.
- Resolve silence or conflict with Adult Corrections and a BCSO release-record request.
The Blount County 24-Hour Releases page explains the same-day aggregate and named-person fallback. For a calculated state sentence milestone, use the Blount County Release Date Lookup.
The official InmateNOW system shows why the first step must be read as a current-custody check.
Its visible table carries an image, name, age, race and sex, and booking date. A booking date is not a release date.
Blount County Three-System Release Trail
Blount County divides the release trail among systems with different time horizons. InmateNOW answers whether the county presently lists a person. The court portal explains the legal case and often preserves orders after the jail row changes. GovTransfer and BCSO Records provide the historical custody exit. A blank result in one place cannot answer all three questions.
Use the systems as a sequence. Confirm the last booking first, identify the court event next, then obtain the durable release sheet. If the sheet names a receiving agency, continue into that agency's locator. This method distinguishes a community exit from a transfer without treating any one status badge as complete proof.
Note: Preserve the check date and at least two identifiers whenever a named-person result matters.
Blount Release Records Before 2019
Blount County publishes an unusually clear boundary for its online court search. Its current public set generally covers cases filed from August 1, 2019 forward, though some older material appears. Confidential matters do not appear. An empty result for an older release should lead to the correct clerk or archives route, not to a claim that no case existed.
General Sessions handles many misdemeanor and early criminal matters, while Circuit Criminal handles felony and related proceedings. The General Sessions Clerk can be reached at 865-273-5450 and the Circuit Court Clerk at 865-273-5400. A court record can explain the legal basis for release but should still be paired with the jail exit record when the physical time or destination matters.
Blount County Bond Release Proof
Blount County has judicial-commissioner availability beyond ordinary clerk hours for warrants and summonses, but that fact does not promise a set exit time. Bond processing, another hold, transport, and jail workflow can all affect the physical release. InmateNOW's active detail model includes bond, court, docket, and court-date data that help identify the right case while the booking remains visible.
Pair the BCSO exit record with the bond order and next setting. Bond-out means the person left physical custody while the charge continues unless the court later disposes of it. Neither the booking photo nor the charge is proof of guilt, and a court order alone is not proof that every hold was cleared.
TDOC Blount Release Record Search
TDOC's Felony Offender Information Lookup applies when someone entered Tennessee felony custody or supervision. It is not the right archive for every Blount County arrest. Search by TOMIS number when possible, or match the name against middle name, birth facts, photo, conviction data, and other identifiers. Copy the live labels exactly.
| FOIL item | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name and TOMIS ID | Primary identity match for a Tennessee felony record |
| Photo and descriptors | Supporting match clues, not proof of a current status |
| Status | Institutional, supervised, inactive, or another exact agency label |
| Location or office | Institution or supervision routing at the time shown |
| Sentence and date labels | Eligibility, parole, expiration, or discharge milestones that must not be merged |
A person can be physically outside prison but still active on parole. Conversely, an inactive label should not be translated into a release reason without supporting records. The official FOIL search form shows the state fields used for a lookup.
The statewide screen is useful only after the searcher has reason to believe the person entered TDOC felony custody or supervision.
Blount Released Versus Custody Records
Each official system answers a narrower question. Read the record in the scope of the agency that created it.
| System | Still in custody | After release or transfer |
|---|---|---|
| BCSO InmateNOW | Current county listing and booking details | No named public release archive; request the BCSO record |
| Blount court portal | Orders and case events may explain custody | Disposition, judgment, probation, or later violation may remain |
| TDOC FOIL | Institution and active state status | Parole, supervision, expiration, or discharge labels may remain |
| VINELink | Participating agency status and alerts | An agency-bounded event may appear, subject to lag and coverage |
| BOP locator | Federal facility or status | Release date and no BOP custody, with other custody still possible |
| ICE locator | Recent adult ICE custody | Recent release can remain for a limited period and needs context |
Release from one agency is not proof that every other agency also released the person.
Route Blount County Release Corrections
Blount County separates Sheriff records from general archive research. Booking and release copies or correction questions go through GovTransfer and BCSO Records. Older county-government research may be routed through Blount County Archives at 1229 McArthur Road, 865-380-4295, or allrecords@blounttn.org. Archives asks onsite researchers to schedule and lists weekday hours from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Do not send sensitive identity details to every county office. Start with the custodian that created the record. The archive's published copy prices are not BCSO's booking-sheet or photo fees, and no fixed BCSO charge or guaranteed turnaround was verified. Electronic delivery and a written estimate keep the request narrow.
Blount County Expunged Release Records
Tennessee expungement starts in the court where the case began. The state expungement FAQ explains qualifying outcomes and the court-led path. After a Blount court completes an order, the order travels to the arresting agency, county jail, TDOC, and TBI. TDOC removes affected charges from FOIL and TOMIS.
A cached photo or old private listing may then conflict with updated official systems. The lawful court order controls. Eligibility depends on the case and outcome, so the originating clerk or counsel must assess it. An expungement cannot be promised from a dismissal label alone, and a public records request must not be used to republish material that has been lawfully removed.
Blount County Jail Release Turnover
BCSO reports that the current adult jail has a certified capacity of 350 and recorded 6,379 bookings in 2019. Those figures show high turnover, but they require careful labels. Bookings are events, not unique people, and they are not releases. The year is historical rather than a current annual count.
Turnover is why a present-inmate table cannot serve as a historical release archive. The release sheet, court event, and receiving-system record are far more durable than a live row.
Blount County Release Property Deadline
BCSO publishes a concrete post-release rule for personal property. Its Adult Corrections property page says property may be returned when a person leaves custody or released to an authorized person under its identification and written-authorization rules. Published pickup windows are Tuesday or Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
Property not collected within 30 days after release is treated as abandoned and destroyed. That short deadline is not the retention term for a booking record or mugshot. Physical property and government records follow separate policies. Remaining inmate-account funds are issued on a debit card after applicable fees, while intake funds and property are returned on a court release or bond-out under the published process.
Note: Call Adult Corrections before a trip because access rules and vendor terms can change.
Verify Blount County Release Sources
Search results can confuse Blount County, Tennessee with Blount County, Alabama. The Alabama sheriff advertises a 48-hour release page, but it is not evidence for Maryville. Tennessee's verified public service is BCSO InmateNOW, identified by Maryville branding, Tennessee contacts, area code 865, and official BCSO or county domains.
The distinction matters because the Tennessee system has a rolling 24-hour release count but no verified public list of corresponding names and no 72-hour release view. Never turn booking dates into release dates or import another state's feed. Official identity is part of the evidence.
Blount County Release Facility Context
The current adult detention facility opened in 1999. Blount County's Community Justice Initiative history traces later planning around capacity, facility upgrades, incarceration data, alternatives, and program needs beginning in 2017. That history helps explain the county's shared Justice Center setting but does not change the correct release search.
The facility can hold adults under county authority and, through contracts, people connected to other agencies. A name leaving its roster can therefore mark a handoff rather than a community exit. The operator or receiving agency determines the next record.
Blount County Release Facility Map
The local and statewide routes below are separate custody systems. Only the adult and juvenile detention functions are identified in Blount County. The TDOC, BOP, ICE, and USMS pages explain systems that may receive or track a person from a Blount case without implying a local prison or federal detention center.
- Blount County Adult Detention Facility: use BCSO Records, the court case, and the named receiving agency.
- Blount County Juvenile Detention Center: authorized parties must use Juvenile Court and the lawful custodian.
- Tennessee Department of Correction: use FOIL for a state transfer, parole, or discharge.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons: use the federal locator for BOP custody and former federal prisoners.
- ICE detention network: use ODLS and ERO when an immigration handoff is possible.
- U.S. Marshals Service custody: use the federal docket and agency records because there is no public USMS name locator.
